With a rich history spanning back to 2001, our expertise in scanning and scanning-related technologies dates back even further. Bob Squier, the owner of 3D Scan IT, Inc. has been deeply involved in scanning since 1996, when he starteded with Steinbichler USA to master the art of laser scanning.
During the formative years of PolyWorks, Bob played a pivotal role in it's development. He collaborated with industry expert Marc Soucy to offer valuable insights. Interestingly, Bob's contributions extended to writing the first manual for PolyWorks software, a modest endeavor that took place around a kitchen table back in the 90s!

Before scanning and point-cloud-based inspection, moldmakers had to make do with point-by-point methods developed for manufacturers. Those were never adequate for tooling and molded parts because they left more than 99% of a surface uninspected. Using the latest laser scanning equipment and PolyWorks software, Eifel, a Michigan-based moldmaker, can now globally inspect plastic molds for airbag manufacturer Autoliv at three critical stages: aluminum prototype tools, mold tryouts, and production-ready.
